SWOT analysis for teacher-authors

Before you buy, sell or make a big change, take 20 minutes to look at your business honestly. Fill in each box, then print it or save it as a PDF. Your answers stay in your browser.

Strengths

What sells without you pushing it? Which reviews make you proud? What do you do better or faster than other sellers in your niche?

Weaknesses

Where does the store depend on you alone? Which products are dated, under-reviewed or off-brand? What do you avoid doing (email, Pinterest, updates)?

Opportunities

New curriculum rollouts, grade levels you haven’t covered, bundles, an email list, your own website, school or district licences, a buyer who could take it further.

Threats

Marketplace algorithm or fee changes, AI-generated competition, curriculum changes that date your best sellers, burnout, licences that won’t transfer.

What to do with your SWOT

  • Selling? Your weaknesses are your to-do list before you list. Buyers will find them, so fix them first.
  • Buying? Fill one in for the store you’re looking at. If the threats column is longer than the strengths column, slow down.
  • Growing? Match a strength to an opportunity. That’s usually your next best move.
