Buying a store
Buy an established store instead of starting from zero.
A store with years of reviews, a loyal following and a catalogue that already sells can save you years. But you need to know what you’re actually buying. I’ll help you find the right fit and check it properly.
Who this is for
- Teachers who want a resource business but don’t want to spend five years building one
- Current teacher-authors who want to add a complementary store or grade level
- Curriculum companies looking to acquire a catalogue and an audience
Ways I can help
Buyer list
Free
Tell me what you’re looking for: grade, subject, budget and how hands-on you want to be. When a store that fits comes up, you’ll hear about it first.
Due diligence review
$150 USD/hour
Before you pay a cent, I’ll review the seller’s numbers, licensing, product quality and how much of the sales depend on the seller personally.
First 90 days plan
$150 USD/hour
A transition plan for after you take over: what to keep, what to update, how to introduce yourself to customers, and where the growth is.
Red flags I look for
- Sales that fell sharply in the last year, hidden by a strong year before it
- A store that only sells because of the seller’s personal social following
- Clip art or fonts licensed only to the original seller
- Most of the revenue coming from one or two products
- Resources tied to curriculum that’s about to change
I’m a business consultant and fellow teacher-author, not a licensed business broker, lawyer or accountant. For legal agreements and tax advice on a sale, I’ll always recommend you bring in a professional.
Have a store in mind already?
Send me a DM with what you’re looking at. If it’s worth a closer look, we’ll book a due diligence review.
